This year, Mmm…Cakes has won the golden ticket, as it hosts the Wonka experience of a lifetime on Saturday, December 9th. The iconic Downtown Chula Vista bakery’s Pop-Up Chocolate Factory will include Wonka-themed giveaways and whimsical, one-of-a-kind pastries and drinks, created by Co-Owner and Executive Chef, Jose Barajas. This free event will take place from 5PM – 9PM, while supplies last.
“The original Willy Wonka film helped inspire me to begin my journey into baking so I’m thrilled to be putting together such an exciting event to celebrate the release of this new iteration,” said Jose Barajas, Co-Owner and Executive Chef of Mmm…Cakes.
Originally created as a small home-based cake and dessert business in 2013, Chula Vista native Jose Barajas has quickly become a staple in the community and in the baking world, participating in competition shows like TLC’s Next Great Baker and Food Network’s Cake Wars and Holiday Gingerbread Showdown. His success and passion created an opportunity to partner with his brother and sister-in-law, Miguel and Stevie, and open Mmm…Cakes in 2021 along the historic Third Avenue in Downtown Chula Vista. A proponent of the communities he lives and works in, Jose has been a key figure in the revitalization of Downtown Chula Vista, serving as a board member of the Downtown Chula Vista Association.
The Wonka Experience at Mmm…Cakes will take place on Saturday, December 9 from 5PM-9PM, or while supplies last.
The free event features a menu that is entirely chocolate-based and contains items such as chicken mole empanadas and strawberries & cream cream puffs, as well as non-alcoholic sweet drinks and hot chocolate. Additionally, there will be film-related giveaways and photo opportunities. In celebration of the film and the holiday season, attendees are encouraged to join in the fun and dress in their most festive attire.
