SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Man of Steel is about to make a towering new appearance on the sands of Mission Beach. In honor of the highly anticipated debut of Superman—opening nationwide Friday, July 11—San Diego Sand Castles’ acclaimed artist J.T. Estrela will craft an epic Superman sand sculpture on Thursday, July 3. Carving will begin mid-morning; the piece is expected to be complete and ready for public viewing by approximately 3:30 PM.

“Superman has inspired generations to look up with hope,” said J.T. Estrela, whose award-winning sand creations have captivated audiences worldwide. “Carving this symbol of strength and compassion right here on our hometown shoreline is my tribute to the hero in all of us—and a fun way to welcome the new era of DC films.”
The intricate sand sculpture will feature Superman in mid-flight, cape billowing above the waves, alongside the campaign hashtag #LookUp—inviting visitors to snap photos, share on social media, and build excitement for the film’s release. Representatives from Warner Bros. Pictures will be on site distributing limited-edition merchandise and photo props while supplies last.
