THE EXORCIST: BELIEVER Official Movie Trailer

Exactly half a century ago this autumn, cinema screens worldwide were plunged into terror by what would become the most spine-chilling horror film in history. Now, on the ominous date of Friday, October 13th, a new chapter is set to unfold. Courtesy of Blumhouse and the visionary director David Gordon Green, known for revitalizing the Halloween franchise, brace yourselves for ‘The Exorcist: Believer.’

I became completely immersed in this cinematic masterpiece in the late 1970s, when I was just a kid living in my hometown in Puerto Rico. Little did I know that the film would spark my lifelong love of horror movies. As I looking back now, it’s obvious that this wasn’t just a movie, it was a pivotal point in my life that sent me on a course filled with numerous cinematic experiences and late-night scares. It opened my eyes to the artistry and storytelling that could be found in the world of horror. – Raymond Melendez, MovieFloss co-founder

In the aftermath of a devastating earthquake in Haiti that claimed his pregnant wife’s life a dozen years ago, Victor Fielding (Tony winner and Oscar® nominee Leslie Odom, Jr., renowned for ‘One Night in Miami’ and ‘Hamilton’), has been raising their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett, of ‘Good Girls’), as a single parent.

However, when Angela and her friend Katherine (newcomer Olivia O’Neill) mysteriously vanish in the woods, only to reappear three days later with no recollection of their ordeal, it sets off a chain of events that will compel Victor to confront the very depths of malevolence. In his anguish and desperation, he seeks out the sole living person who has witnessed anything akin to this horror: Chris MacNeil.

For the first time since the 1973 classic, Oscar® winner Ellen Burstyn reprises her iconic role as Chris MacNeil, an actress irrevocably changed by the events that transpired with her daughter Regan five decades ago.

The ensemble cast also includes Emmy winner Ann Dowd (‘The Handmaid’s Tale,’ ‘Hereditary’) as Victor and Angela’s neighbor, and Grammy winner Jennifer Nettles (‘Harriet,’ ‘The Righteous Gemstones’) along with two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz (‘Fosse/Verdon,’ ‘Bloodline’) as the parents of Katherine, Angela’s companion.

When ‘The Exorcist,’ adapted from William Peter Blatty’s best-selling book, first graced the silver screen, it reshaped culture, smashing box office records and securing 10 Academy Award® nominations, marking the first time a horror film had ever been nominated for Best Picture.

‘The Exorcist: Believer’ is helmed by David Gordon Green, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Peter Sattler (‘Camp X-Ray’). The story was crafted by Scott Teems (‘Halloween Kills’), Danny McBride (‘Halloween’ trilogy), and David Gordon Green, drawing from the characters created by William Peter Blatty.

Produced by Jason Blum for Blumhouse, and David Robinson and James G. Robinson for Morgan Creek Entertainment, the executive producers include Danny McBride, David Gordon Green, Stephanie Allain, Ryan Turek, and Atilla Yücer.

Universal Pictures proudly presents this Blumhouse/Morgan Creek Entertainment production in partnership with Rough House Pictures.
