Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates may be the rated-R comedy that stays in the top 10 at the box office this summer. Now granted some people may have no interest in seeing this movie but they definitely should. This so far has been one of the better movies I’ve seen this summer, yet this year the summer box office has been one of the worst ones in recent memory.
Now with this movie, it is laughs all throughout for sure with an excellent balance of all four protagonists. The chemistry among all 4 protagonists is great too (yet Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson still have them beat). The premise of this as we know from the trailers is that two siblings (Zac Efron and Adam Devine) need dates for their sister’s wedding because without those dates they would get out of control. They are shown to have a streak of egging each other on to do ridiculous things at family get-togethers and whatnot, so their sister wants to prevent that at all costs on her wedding day. Little do they know that the girls (Anna Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza) they bring to the wedding are exactly like them, just of the opposite sex. They party just as hard as they guys do, if not harder and they are definitely the funnier duo in the movie. It is a movie that is very reminiscent of Wedding Crashers just with a bigger cast and where the crashers are female. It is a good spin on that basic comedy premise and one that is sure to please fans on this type of movie.
As stated before, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates is really funny, actually a lot funnier than I thought it would be. Yet I fear that it won’t do as well as it should at the box office mostly because it is summer and kids are out, so that means most of the movie going will be kids in tow aka not this movie. It’s already apparent since the high grossing films are kid friendly. Yet I strongly urge people to go to see this movie, if you have kids at home hire a sitter. This movie is worth it, it starts out with laughs and it ends with laughs as well not intended for children but still it is funny nonetheless and well worth the watch. Cinematography in this movie is pretty straightforward, nothing too innovative or astounding just the standard comedy film. But the plot here keeps you entertained all through the movie, really a much needed laugh in the sad summer box office. In the end this is a movie I will watch again.
